Rare Find: 1984 Lincoln Continental with Factory Installed BMW Straight-Six Turbo Diesel

Did you know that Lincoln offered its mid-1980s Continental sedan and Mark VII coupe models with a factory-installed BMW straight-six turbo diesel? It may sound bizarre -to say the least- but it is true.

The BMW-sourced 2.4-liter inline-six turbo diesel engine, which was used in the shark-nosed 1980s 524TD, delivered an output of 115HP and was backed by a ZF four-speed automatic transmission. It was available optionally in 1984 and 1985 on the Continental sedan and Mark VII coupe models instead of the standard 140HP 4.9-liter gasoline-fed V8.

One of these extremely rare [since few buyers opted for the diesel] BMW-powered Lincolns has been found for sale on Craigslist with the asking price set at $2,800.

"This is a limited edition from Lincoln, it is only 1 of 2500 ever made. It has a 2.4 liter BMW turbo diesel form the factory. This car is in very good condition, It has always been stored for the winters and has no rust. The mileage is unknown because the odometer is digital in it dosen't work. It runs and drive great. It was purchased from an estate sale about 5-7 years ago. This car is all original. Seats are NOT ripped but worn a bit. This is a Rare car you will not find another one of these for a long time."

BMW 7 Series 2011 Specification and Details with Pictures

The 2011 BMW 7-Series lineup expands further with the addition of new entry-level, sporty, and gas/electric hybrid models. Other 7-Series models should see no major changes for 2011. This premium-large car comes as the 750i and 750Li, each with a choice of rear-wheel drive or BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive. At the top of the lineup is the rear-drive 760Li. Newly available is the gas/electric ActiveHybrid 7. Also new for 2011 are the entry-level 740i and 740Li, as well as the sport-themed ALPINA B7. The "L" versions of BMW's flagship sedan ride on a wheelbase that is 5.5 inches longer than that of non-Li versions. 740 models are powered by a turbocharged 315-horsepower 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine. The 750i and 750Li use a 400-horsepower 4.4-liter turbocharged V8. The ALPINA B7 is offered as both a standard and extended model with all-wheel drive and a 500-horsepower version of the 750's 4.4-liter V8. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on these models. The ActiveHybrid 7 pairs a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor for 455 horsepower total. The hybrid system can shut off the gas engine at a stop, but the car is unable to accelerate solely on battery power. No plug-in charging is required.
The hybrid uses an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 760Li has a turbocharged 544-horsepower 6.0-liter V12 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Available safety features should include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, knee airbags, and curtain-side airbags. BMW's Active Roll Stabilization, designed to counter body lean, is standard on the ALPINA B7 and 760Li and optional on 740 and 750 models. BMW's new Integral Active Steering adds speed-sensitive rear-wheel steering to BMW's Active Steering system and is standard on the B7 and 760 and optional on the 740 and 750. Also standard is BMW's Dynamic Driving Control, which allows the driver to adjust the suspension, throttle response, transmission's shift characteristics, and power steering. A navigation system and wireless cell-phone link are standard along with BMW's iDrive control for audio, navigation, and climate settings. All models include steering-linked headlights, front- and rear-obstacle detection, and BMW Assist emergency and concierge service. Other available features include blind-spot alert, lane-departure warning, a head-up display, sideview and rearview cameras, and high beams that automatically dim when oncoming traffic is detected. Also offered are a 40-gigabyte hard drive for the audio and navigation systems, which allows for storage of up to 13 gigabytes of music files. A night-vision system, adaptive cruise control, DVD entertainment, and keyless access and engine start also return. The ALPINA B7 has specific suspension tuning, exterior, and interior trim.
The new 7-Series will roll on 18-inch alloy wheels shod in all-season run-flat tires in a 245/50R18 size. Two styles of 19-inch wheels with performance-oriented rubber will be optional.

Weight-saving measures have shaved about 120 lbs thanks largely to increased use of aluminum in the body as compared to the previous generation car despite the new car carrying more standard equipment. Another detail change meant to improve fuel consumption by reducing drag is a flap in the grille that eliminates unneeded airflow.

As BMW's flagship, the 7 Series represents the company's pinnacle of luxury, comfort and cutting-edge technology. Supple leather and rich wood accents adorn almost every surface and the available "multicontour" front seats ensure comfort for virtually any body type. The rear seats are similarly accommodating for taller adults, and the extended-wheelbase versions offer even more legroom (by about 6 inches) and slightly increased headroom. Available rear seat heating and even a massage feature should satisfy the most demanding of passengers.
The cabin of the 2011 BMW 7 Series is more user-friendly than its much-maligned predecessor. Gone are the days when occupants would rather sit in silence than navigate the over-complicated iDrive system menus. Along with the main iDrive controller knob, several physical buttons help to simplify some of the most commonly used functions. Some may still find the iDrive system a bit complicated, but with continued use, we think the improved layout is an elegant solution to a button-heavy dashboard.

2010 BMW M3 Coupe Review and Prices with Pics

The rivalry between Audi and BMW is a clash of industry heavyweights, a battle for the hearts and minds of the most demanding, tough-minded car enthusiasts in the world between two adventurous, successful car companies. And it's all coming down to the 2010 Audi RS5 and the 2010 BMW M3 CSL.

These cars are coming down the production pipeline, major statements of automotive performance by two companies that care more about excellence than profit. (They're German, after all.) If you're a car enthusiast, the prospect of these two super coupes will be all you're going to be talking about for the next year.

And yet both Audi and BMW want the other to win the race to market. Why? Because the output of the V8-powered 2010 Audi RS5 and 2010 BMW CSL will both hover around 450 horsepower, and whichever arrives first allows the enemy to gazump it on peak power.
Under that muscular hood is a 414-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-8. This phenomenal engine smashes through the coveted 100 horsepower-per-liter mark and leaves you hanging on for dear life. Variable camshaft control and eight throttle valves ensure optimal airflow to the combustion chambers, while the spark plugs do double-duty to sense and help prevent bad combustion.

Power is delivered through a precise six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Intelligent alternator control utilizes energy from regenerative braking to charge the battery, thus improving fuel economy. The M3 achieves 13-14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy is better than the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, but a bit behind the Lexus IS-F.
In designing the interior, the specialists at BMW M GmbH have succeeded in offering the occupants maximum driving pleasure in an ambience tailored to their specific needs and wishes. This applies particularly to the driver, with all controls and instruments relating directly to the active driving experience in the car adapted to the supreme performance of the BMW M3 and re-designed from the ground up wherever appropriate.

Double circular instruments with white illumination and red needles, the M leather steering wheel and the newly designed centre console all characterize the cockpit of the new BMW M3. The door cutout trim embellished by the characteristic M logo, the support for the driver's left foot made of brushed metal, the special design and color of the inner door panels, as well as the trim strip made of high-quality, sophisticated materials exclusive to BMW M such as leather in carbon design or aluminum, all serve to underline the supreme and truly unique position of the new BMW M3.
Pricing starts at $56,500. Compared to the previous-generation M3 Coupe, the new two-door is around $8,000 more expensive. Of course, it packs a whole lot more punch, too.

A premium package, priced at $1900, offers power folding mirrors, universal garage opener, digital compass mirror, BMW Assist, Novillo Leather interior and choice of three optional interior trims.

The technology package includes EDC, M Drive, Comfort Access, and a navigation system -- all for $3250.

19" wheels are $1200, Electronic Damping Control is $1000, and Extended Novillo Leather can be had for $2000 as a standalone option or $1000 with the premium package. Enhanced premium sound is $1900.

2010 BMW Concept Gran Coupe Overview with Wallpapers

BMW has unveiled its Gran Coupe concept car at Beijing Auto Show 2010. The car is specially designed for the Chinese market with elegant style and dynamic proportions.

The Gran Coupe is based on the powerful tradition of BMW segment and has a four-door system along with the inputs from a sports car. It highlights the classic features of all BMW coupes such as the long wheelbase, the vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, the set-back greenhouse, the flat silhouette, the coupe-style roof line and the short front overhang. Every part is nicely assembled that showcases the brand value of the company.

Four-door coupes are nothing new these days, what with vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Volkswagen CC proving that these stylish sedans do, in fact, have a place in the automotive world.
